POLO-Dubai strengthens implementation of Post Arrival Orientation Seminar

As part of its commitment to keep the Filipino community updated on relevant labor and employment information, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Dubai has stepped up its regular conduct of the Post Arrival Orientation Seminar, or PAOS, at POLO-Dubai.

Labor Attaché Ofelia Domingo of POLO-Dubai reported this to Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, saying that since it was launched on 1 May 2016, the PAOS has been regularly conducted every Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at POLO-Dubai.

“The regular conduct of PAOS is part of the package of improvement programs implemented by our overseas labor office to provide better service to the Filipino community residing in Dubai and in the northern emirates,” Domingo said.

The PAOS serves as a guide for newly-arrived OFWs to be oriented about the receiving country’s profile, culture, economy, education, laws and working environment.

“The discussion on these topics allows the newly-arrived OFWs to be aware and be mindful of the do’s and don’ts or pros and cons of any transaction they may get into or involved with,” Domingo added.

Also, one of the topics discussed during the session is precautionary measures to adopt in case of work malpractice in addition to a lecture on SSS and Pag-IBIG programs.

Among the speakers in the PAOS include Dr. Froilan Malit of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (formerly Ministry of Labor) and representatives from various HR agencies in Dubai.

Joining in the sessions are the recruits of the Philippine and Foreign Recruitment Agencies, who are required to attend the orientation.

To date, 376 OFWs benefitted from PAOS as well as on Financial Literacy orientation-seminar.

PAOS is facilitated by the Worker’s Welfare Unit and the Employment Unit of the POLO, a newly set-up structure initiated by Labor Attaché Domingo, which seeks to ensure clear delineation of duties and responsibilities at the labor office.
