The labor department has noted improved harmony in workplaces helped largely by the presence and active intervention of labor management cooperation committees.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the operation of LMCs in companies resulted to immediate settlement of labor disputes between workers and management.

“Workplace relations enhancement is part of our strategy to ensure speedy delivery of labor justice. Through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, we must ensure stable and just climate of industrial relations,” Bello said.

In its report to the labor chief, the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) said 3,033 out of 3,080 or 98.5 percent of companies with LMCs were not involved in Actual Strike/Lockouts, Notices of Strike/Lockout, and Preventive Mediation or Voluntary Arbitration cases in the month of February.

In LMC, labor and management work hand-in-hand to accomplish certain goals using mutually accepted means of information sharing, discussion, consultation, and negotiations.

Also, a total of 541 companies were reached through promotional and pre-facilitation activities of LMC including the conduct of orientation seminar to both workers and management, as well as the provision of technical assistance in setting up labor- management cooperation mechanisms.
