Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday said the National Conciliation and Mediation Board in the National Capital Region has settled a preventive mediation (PM) case after it facilitated the payment of financial assistance grant to two dismissed labor union officers of a bed and furniture manufacturing company in Valenzuela City.
In a report, NCMB-NCR Director Amorsolo Aglibut said the case arose when the union, led by Rodelio M. Caballero, union president, at the Philippine Bed and Furniture Manufacturing Corporation, filed a PM case on 25 July 2013 in order to vindicate its alleged violated rights. The union alleged that the management was guilty of unfair labor practice on account of union busting that resulted to the termination of two union officers.
Director Aglibut facilitated the settlement of the labor dispute, saying it is best that the disagreement be resolved promptly and peacefully. Through conciliation, he facilitated the settlement when the company offered to grant financial assistance to the two union officers, Larry delos Santos, who received P30,847.66, and Alexis Garcia, who was granted P30,944.98.
The Philippine Bed and Furniture Manufacturing Corporation, owned by businessman Patrick Ching, is located at No. 27 G. Molina St., Canumay, Valenzuela City. It has 60 employees, 20 of whom are members of the union.
