DOLE unifies PSME factions

As a further boost to its agenda of a sound and stable industrial peace, the labor department has facilitated the unification of two associations of mechanical engineers.

Through the intervention of Labor Undersecretary Jacinto Paras, who heads the Human Capital Development, Overseas Employment Administration and Policy Support Cluster, and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Chairman Teofilo Pilando, members of the two Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) factions agreed to set aside their differences and work under one PSME.

“The labor department, headed by Secretary Silvestre Bello III, fully supports the unification of PSME. We believe that achieving industrial peace does not only entail the harmonious relationship between employers and workers, but also among members of professional organizations,” Paras said.

As a result of this agreement, a PSME interim board of directors was chosen by both parties.

The 2019 set of officers, which were inducted on January 6 by Undersecretary Paras, were President Jeffrey Singson; Executive Vice President Jeremy Aguinea; Vice President-Internal Loreto Catalan; Vice President-External Simeon Perez; Vice President-Technical Cesar Lim; National Secretary Melanie Banayos; National Treasurer Alexander Listana; National Auditor Ransam Pirote; Vice President-National Capital Region Armando Emata; Vice President-Luzon Jesus Patiag; Vice President-Visayas Gregorio Senining; Vice President-Mindanao Jaydrick Yap; and National Directors Eduardo Fornes, Jerry Asuncion, and Emmanuel Dela Cruz.

“The process and the work to strengthen and maintain this unity will undoubtedly be not easy. All of us needs to continually work to achieve peace and harmony in our society, even down to the chapter level,” said PSME in a statement.

The PSME, which was established in 1952 to serve Filipino mechanical engineers of various grades, is the only PRC Accredited Professional Organization of Mechanical Engineers in the country.
