To typhoon-displaced workers and other jobless Filipinos
“Attend DOLE’s job fairs until December,” Baldoz urges

The DOLE’s employment facilitation strategies include job fairs, and Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz is urging workers displaced by Typhoon Yolanda and the Bohol earthquake, as well as other jobless Filipinos, to pre-position themselves and attend the job fairs the DOLE is mounting until December.

“To sustain the DOLE’s efforts in facilitating employment services in the aftermath of the successive calamities that devastated the Visayas region, the latest of which is Typhoon Yolanda, we are holding more job fairs in the regions in the remaining days of the year, particularly to accommodate displaced workers,” she said.

“The government is serious in utilizing all possible means to help the victims of the earthquake in Bohol and super typhoon Yolanda, especially in Eastern Visayas. We will bring existing employment opportunities closer you,” Baldoz said.

Earlier, Baldoz had ordered the POEA, Bureau of Local Employment, PESOs, and the DOLE Regional Offices to mobilize resources, partners, and allies and conduct overseas job fairs for workers in calamity-stricken provinces. One of these job fairs is to be held in January after a worker-profiling and registration activity in Ormoc in the second or third week of December.

She also ordered the POEA to mobilize licensed recruitment agencies, and the BLE to enlist the participation of local employers, particularly those in the Visayas, for the job fairs.

She said the job fairs should be held simultaneous with government’s rehabilitation efforts, particularly in areas where workplaces were hit the hardest and where there could be large concentration of displaced workers.

“These workers coming from the typhoon-hit areas should not worry about the basic documents required for in their job application. The DOLE shall be very lenient in the requirements and shall consider them as priority in job referral and placement assistance. They already lost their homes and their jobs. The least we can do is to relieve them of pre-employment documents,” Baldoz said.
