The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has closed down the office of the KBR International Agency Switzerland/AVA Documentation Services in Malate, Manila which was found recruiting Filipino workers without proper license from the government.
The closure came following the conduct of surveillance operations by the POEA which found the business firm recruiting OFWs supposedly for deployment to Switzerland, Brunei, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, New Zealand and Canada.
The POEA operative who posed as an applicant said the agency recruits waiters, construction workers, factory workers, and hotel workers.
It was also found in the surveillance operations that the agency does not collect placement fees but requires applicants to pay for medical examination and training fees.
When confronted, the employees present during the closure of the agency denied they were recruiting workers and offered a business permit issued by the City of Manila in the name of AVA Documentation Services.
The POEA is filing an illegal recruitment case against Veronica Abalos, Antonio Ansong, Mirasol Agaton, and other responsible officers and staff of the closed establishment.
