Aside from the nationwide job fairs, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said the DOLE has lined up other equally valuable activities in commemoration of the 118th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.


“Aside from the job fairs, our countrymen can look forward to various DOLE activities in their localities. Through these activities, we aim to increase the public’s awareness on our various programs and services,” Secretary Baldoz said citing a report of DOLE Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Nicon F. Fameronag on the 2016 Independence Day activities.


The nationwide regional activities are as follows:


Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR): 12 June – celebration of World Day against Child Labor at the University of Baguio Gymnasium through the launching of “Lapis, Papel, at iba pa,” a project that encourages the public to send a child laborer to school by way of donating school supplies. A covenant that aims to eliminate the worst forms of child labor will also be signed during the event. A one-stop shop government booth will also be available on the same date and venue.


Region 1: 12 June – Awarding of certificates of compliance to establishments in Candon City, Ilocos Sur


Region 2: 12 June – Fun Run and Hataw in Tuguegarao City to be spearheaded by PIA, as well as floral offering and film viewing at Rizal Park


Region 3: 8 June – Orientation on fixed-based compensation scheme in the bus transportation industry at DOLE RO3; 8 to 9 June – tree planting activity in Porac, Pampanga; 14 June – seminar on Climate Change and Conservation Initiatives at San Fernando City, Pampanga to be attended by 50 DOLE personnel


Region 4-A: 12 June – Celebration of World Day Against Child Labor through an advocacy run, statement of support from stakeholders, awarding of scholarships, and distribution of educational supplies at the multi-purpose gym, Pila, Laguna.


Region 4-B: distribution of school supplies and livelihood project proposal writeshop to parents of children at risk of becoming child laborers on 16 to 17 June, Brgy. Kawit, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro; 21 June, Brgy. Iling Proper, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, 22 June, Brgy. Iriron, Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro


Region 5: 7 June – Migrant Workers’ Day Celebration in Camarines Sur; 8 June – groundbreaking ceremony of the DOLE Regional Office 13 June – Flag raising ceremony, film showing, and talk on nationalism, patriotism, and nation building at the DOLE regional office


Region 6: 12 June – Installation of one-stop shop booth of DOLE RCC, SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG at Mary Mart Mall, Iloilo City; Distribution of school supplies to child laborers and children at risk of child labor


Negros Island Region (NIR): 7 June – Orientation and adaption of voluntary code on good practices in the sugar industry at Siaton, Negros Oriental; 12 June – Martsa para sa Batang Malaya; Signing of the MOU on Lakbay Aral; turnover of school supplies to “lakaw” beneficiary schools; awarding of child labor free establishment; project angel tree; stakeholders’ documentary exhibit on child welfare efforts; larong pinoy; advocacy through skills-demo, free services for children, and community dancing and singing; Quad media advocacy campaign

The 118th celebration of the Philippine Independence Day is anchored on the theme: “Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong”.
