The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) announced yesterday the opening of additional training course programs, further boosting its status as one of the premier maritime training centers in the country.

NMP is an institution under the Department of Labor and Employment.

“Adding more programs is part of our intensified efforts to address the insistent demand for these courses. More trainees can now be accommodated, especially those coming from the National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon areas,” NMP executive director Manuel Roldan said.

The additional training programs are the Training Course for Instructors and Assessment and Examination and Certification of Seafarers.

“With these new programs, the NMP has improved the quality of its training,” Roldan said.

Among the NMP’s achievements in maritime training was its pioneering role in the development of continuing training programs for faculty and trainers, which aims to enhance their instructional and assessment skills through conducting Professional Development Courses.

Meanwhile, to fulfil its mandate, the NMP, being the only government-owned maritime training and research agency in the country, continues to upgrade its facilities and provide maritime trainings required pursuant to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Convention as amended in 2010, including value-adding courses.

It likewise continues to use state-of-the-art equipment in the conduct of trainings to ensure the quality of its maritime programs. These efforts resulted to the NMP’s valuable contributions of producing highly competitive seafarers and promoting their employment acceptability with the national and international merchant fleets.

The NMP encourages those interested to avail of its maritime training programs to visit the NMP Facebook page (\nmptrainingcenter) and website ( for related information about NMP’s offered trainings.
