Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday exuded generosity in her thanks and gratitude to the officials and staff of the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 7 for an ‘excellent’ job on Labor Day, leading to its successful of a key event, the JobStart Forum which President Benigno S. Aquino III visited. “Salamat for the all-out support for the Jobstart Forum and for the KEPCO case. Please extend my thanks to all our staff and to the Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC) members. Praise God for the excellent job,” said Baldoz in a text to Regional Director Exequiel R. Sarcauga a day after the Labor Day Celebration. The ‘KEPCO case’ refers to the labor dispute at power producer KEPCO-SPC which almost deteriorated into a strike of its labor unions on Labor Day, but which Secretary Baldoz successfully conciliated and mediated on the night of 1 May. In another text message, Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) Director Dominique R. Tutay relayed to Director Sarcauga the message of President Benigno S.Aquino III congratulating DOLE 7 for a job well done on its Labor Day Celebration. Another recognition came from DOLE Undersecretary Ciriaco A. Lagunzad III, who commended the BLE and the DOLE Regional Office Number 7 for superbly organizing the event. Together with Sarcauga, National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) Director Edmundo Mirasol, and other parties concerned, Secretary Baldoz personally and successfully facilitated the conciliation and mediation meeting between Kepco-Salcon Power Corporation and the company’s two workers unions which eventually led to a settlement, thereby aborting a planned strike in the company. Director Sarcauga was happy to relay and share the good news with everyone during the regional office’s flag-raising program on Monday, where he also recognized and credited the entire DOLE 7 staff for the success of the event. “We spread ourselves thinly in all venues of the Labor Day Celebration. I am so happy and I thank the field office heads and the division and unit heads for their leadership. I also commend all the staff for their contribution. This is teamwork at its best. I am so proud of DOLE Regional Office Number 7,” he said in response to the commendation received from no less than the President and from Secretary Baldoz. Last Friday, together with his cabinet members, H.E. President Benigno S. Beneficiaries of these programs got a chance to interact with the President . One beneficiary, Queenie Marie S. Genterone of Poblacion, Barili, Cebu, said: “I was very happy that I was able to face the President up close and personal. I could not thank enough the government for implementing the Government Internship Program where I was one of the beneficiaries last year. With the GIP, I was able to develop a sense of accountability. The committed and dedicated people I work with gave me inspiration to do my best in my present work as a teacher.” “We are honored that the President took time to grace one activity we have lined up for the 2015 Labor Day Celebration in Region 7. It was very inspiring that he took notice of the positive outcomes of the implementation of the DOLE’s programs and services in the region. Testament to that are the beneficiaries who were present on that day giving testimonials of how the programs of the DOLE become instrumental in changing their lives for the better,” said Director Sarcauga. He added that the men and women of DOLE Regional Office No. 7 will continue to do their share to the best of their capability in the delivery and implementation of the DOLE’s programs and services knowing fully well that whatever they do will substantially form part of the region’s contribution in the realization of the President’s agenda on inclusive growth.
