DOLE’s OWWA to provide assistance to family of seafarer who dies on-board

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday expressed sincere condolences to the family of OFW Alejandro S. Golosinda, the chief engineer a ship, M/T Tosca, who died on-board while the ship was sailing for Singapore a month ago.

“As soon as I received the initial report from the OFW’s employer, Laurine Maritime, I have already instructed the Overse ational Reintegration Program for OFWs, if they so desire,” Baldoz said.

“These are the standard social benefits for OWWA members and the agency will facilitate the delivery of these benefits to the families of the victims,” she added.

In the report, Ms. Canaria said Golosinda expressed uneasiness due to lack of sleep a day prior to his death. He failed to report for lunch ells, Captain Dominador Yanguas, Jr. personally went to the former’s cabin, only to discover Golosinda’s impassive body.

Medical aid was promptly delivered to Mr. Galasindo, but to no avail. He had no more pulse and heartbeat. They even tried to revive him for the next 30 minutes and was declared dead thereafter.

Galasindo’s remains arrived on 17 October in Manila. Upon arrival, the OWWA provided the necessary airport assistance and given psycho-social counselling to the members of his family.
