Another SEnA success: Speedy & Fair Labor Justice
DOLE’s NCMB resolves worker’s money claim in just 5 days
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz had again commended the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) for amicably settling a request for assistance of a worker so he can claim what is due him.
On 24 February 2014, the NCMB, through the Single Entry Approach, or SEnA, amicably settled Florinco Abarinco’s money claims against his employer, the MI Santos Enterprises. Abarinco received P30,000 corresponding to his claims. His employer also wrote off his P4,100 debt to the company. The parties settled after a joint conference facilitated by Conciliator-Mediator Jay Javines.
Abarinco initially aired his claims in TV5’s television program T3, hosted by popular TV and radio host Erwin Tulfo. The latter indorsed Abarinco’s case to the DOLE through the Labor Communications Office (LCO), which informed Abarinco of his statutory rights under the law, then later referred him to the NCMB for mediation under the SEnA. Five days after his consultation with the LCO, the NCMB speedily resolved his claims.
“It is inspiring to see the enthusiasm and readiness of parties in a labor issue, such as Abarinco and MI Santos Enterprises, to undergo conciliation-mediation in order to avoid a full-blown case and to maintain a harmonious relationship between the employer and employee,” Conciliator-Mediator Javines said in a report.
“This feat is not impossible with the valued efforts of the NCMB in resolving speedily labor claims and complaints. The eagerness to provide win-win solutions for both parties, in the least amount of time, reflects the effectiveness and efficiency of the SEnA and the DOLE’s strong campaign for industrial peace,” Secretary Baldoz observed.
