DOLE resumes issuance of AEPs in Boracay
Following the re-opening of Boracay in October, the labor department has resumed the issuance of alien employment permits (AEP) to foreign nationals intending to work in the island tourist destination.
In Labor Advisory No. 01, series of 2019, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III ordered the lifting of the temporary suspension on the issuance of AEPs after the lapse of the closure period under Proclamation No. 475 issued by President Duterte last year.
Under the Proclamation, Boracay was temporarily closed from April 26 to October 25, 2018 to rehabilitate and restore the island as well as the lives of its people.
To complement the government’s efforts, Bello on June 26, issued Labor Advisory No. 11 ordering the temporary suspension on the issuance of AEP to foreign nationals.
The order covered foreigners who intend to engage in gainful employment in the island and those with valid AEP who intend to renew their employment permits.
The AEP is a document issued by the labor department which authorizes a foreign national to work in the Philippines.
