Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday vowed to resume the DOLE’s regional operation in Eastern Visayas by Monday, 15 November.
“We will commence provision of services to the public and determine the operational capability level of local government units to jumpstart the implementation of the DOLE emergency employment program,” said Baldoz.
In a bid to fast-track the resumption of regional operation, Secretary Baldoz has sent anew to Tacloban DOLE Regional Office No. 5 Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra to haul in construction supplies and other essentials for office refurbishing.
Accompanying Director Lacambra is Assistant Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman and a crew of six personnel to augment the manpower complement already there and to bring in more provisions.
Five contingent teams composed of personnel from DOLE Region 7; DOLE-National Capital Region headed by Rey Sangay; DOLE Regional Office No. 3 headed by Director Raymundo Agravante, DOLE Caraga headed by Regional Director Johnson Canete are now in Tacloban racing to restore regional operation.
Undersecretary Rebecca Chato, who is the top DOLE official supervising and coordinating DOLE efforts in Eastern Visayas, has reported she has accounted for 167 personnel of the DOLE and its family of agencies, while 13 are unaccounted for or reported missing. Two DOLE personnel have been declared dead.
“Those accounted for are from the DOLE regional office, 63 personnel; Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (7); National Conciliation and Mediation Board (9), National Labor Relations Commission (17); Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (15); Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (3); and National Maritime Polytechnic (52). The Professional Regulation Commission and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has not reported on their personnel.
She also reported that electricity provided by a stand-alone generator has been restored in the office. An additional solar emergency lighting and charging system as a back-up power supply, IT equipment, and other provisions will also be brought.
