DOLE doles out Php5.8 million in financial assistance to 1,160 workers in Western Visayas
The labor department extended Php5.8 million in financial assistance to 1,160 workers in Western Visayas under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) 3. The program provides beneficiaries a one-time financial assistance of Php5,000.
“We recognize the importance of government intervention in providing cash aid for vulnerable workers in times of emergencies such as during a pandemic. We hope that the support we have extended under CAMP 3 was a significant safety net for the families of those affected,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said.
According to Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., about half of the beneficiaries are workers from establishments engaged in accommodation and food services, which are two of the industries most affected by the pandemic.
The rest of the beneficiaries are from transportation and storage, education, manufacturing, real estate, wholesale and retail, construction and other service industries.
The third wave of financial assistance under the CAMP was provided to displaced or temporarily laid off workers affected by retrenchment, permanent or temporary closure implemented by their employers as a mitigating measure to the effect of COVID-19 during the implementation of Alert Level 3 or higher in their area.
Narilou V. Biñas, one of the beneficiaries, is more than grateful to DOLE for the assistance she received. The benefits helped sustain her family’s needs when the learning center she is working with ceased its operation when Alert Level 3 was declared in Roxas, Capiz.
“The assistance helped me and my co-employees now that we temporarily lost our job,“ Biñas said.
Following the declaration of Alert Level 3 in the region, Aklan province recorded the most number of affected workers with 739, followed by Capiz with 164 and Iloilo, 131.
Application for CAMP 3 has already been officially closed early this month. ###
