Displaced PWDs assured of DOLE aid

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic can lean on the labor department to bounce back better.

Such is the case of 20 PWDs in General Santos City who were given P400,867.00 worth of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) rice retailing starter kits by the General Santos City DOLE Field Office.

“Our assistance is part of our department’s mandate to support and alleviate the living conditions of the marginalized sector,” DOLE Region XII Director Raymundo Agravante said.

The 20 PWD beneficiaries are mostly visually impaired and had lost their jobs as spa attendants, masseurs, and masseuses in the different health and wellness establishments in the city due to the economic downtrend brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

(Losing our jobs for us PWDs is hard especially at this time of the pandemic, nonetheless, we are thankful to DOLE for helping us start our livelihood undertaking.)

DOLE General Santos Field Office head and chief labor and employment officer Conrado Artatez, Labor and employment officer II Rodilyn Pastor, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Calumpang facilitated the release.

Artatez assured the beneficiaries that the Department is sufficiently equipped to reinforce and enhance the projects to make it sustainable and income-generating.

Regional Director Agravante encouraged all displaced or disadvantaged workers in SOCCSKSARGEN to avail themselves of the DOLE programs and services that would help them substantiate their income through livelihood opportunities.

“The Department constantly calls for our formal and informal sector workers to take advantage of this assistance.  Let us work together in helping our country recover economically by engaging in micro business and entrepreneurial activities,” added RD Agravante.  CDGamboa/SMDumalay

CDGamboa/SMDumalay
