The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) today said that the celebration of Labor Day on May 1 this year will include legal and welfare services to needy workers and employers.
Labor and Employment Secretary Patricia A. Sto. Tomas said that legal and welfare assistance will be provided to workers and employers with labor related problems aside from thousands of local and overseas jobs that would be offered to jobseekers on May 1.
She said that conciliators and other personnel from various DOLE agencies will be on hand to assist clients with labor related problems along with various firms and recruitment agencies offering jobs at the Labor Day celebration which will be held at the Quezon City Hall Covered Walk on Elliptical Road, Quezon City from 8 am to 4 pm on May 1.
The holding of the event dubbed, “Trabaho Muna! Labor Day Jobs and Livelihood Fair,” shall be led by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines in cooperation with the DOLE and the Quezon City government.
The DOLE chief said that the National Labor and Relation Commission and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board will provide a street type conciliation service at the fair in coordination with the DOLE-National Capital Region.
Conciliators and mediators from the three agencies will be ready to provide conciliation services to labor and management with ongoing disputes, she said.
Meanwhile, workers and employers who have concerns involving wages, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Employees Compensation Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Center, Maritime Training Council, and the National Maritime Polytechnic may also avail of legal counseling and welfare services during the fair, Sto. Tomas added.
