The break-out sessions of the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Caravan of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on March 3 and 4 in Marikina City will provide participantsmore knowledge and skills on labor rights and business development, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said.
The two-day caravan is a job and business fair that aims to offer hundreds of employment opportunities for jobseekers, as well as to inspire Filipinos to engage into small and medium enterprises (SME) and explore other viable livelihood options.
“It is the labor department’s main priority to provide Filipino jobseekers with better and decent employment. Through this endeavor, we can give them ideas on how they can enhance their skills to be more competitive in the job market,” Bello explained.
Bello also urged Filipinos to explore the vast opportunities of SME’s and start planning and establishing their own businesses as this can offer various opportunities and provide alternative income for their families.
After the opening ceremonies on March 3, 2017, the morning sessions of the caravan will immediately start at 9:15 am. The first session, with the theme “Kasanayan sa Paghahanap ng Trabaho,” will be led by Dir. Dominique Tutay of DOLE Bureau of Local Employment. The session will provide Filipino job hunters with information on how they can find jobs and employers that will fit to their skills and work experience.
A simultaneous session on “Paano Magsimula at Magpalago ng Negosyo” will be given by Maria Victoria Magkalas from the DTI – Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development. She will tackle on how Filipinos can start, establish, and grow their businesses to achieve success. She will also talk about business planning, strategies, and risks should an individual decides to put up their businesses.
Two more sessions will be held from 1:15 pm – 5:00 pm, Atty. Benjo Benavidez, Director of DOLE – Bureau of Labor Relations will discuss “Karapatan at Kapakanan ng Manggagawa” to provide the attendees ample knowledge on provisions included in the Labor Code, particularly on worker’s rights, classification, skills, health and safety, and the benefits mandated by law.
Dir. Ahmma Charisma Satumba of DOLE – Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns will discuss the “Handog Pangkabuhayan ng DOLE” at 3:15 pm – 4:30 pm. The session will tackle about the benefits and assistance that the labor department and its offices can extend for those who are planning to start and grow their businesses or revive their existing enterprises which were destroyed by typhoons or calamities through DOLE Kabuhayan Program.
Aspiring business persons can also gain various knowledge from the session “Sa Maliit na Puhunan, May Negosyong Pagkakakitaan” session where speaker Zemar Pacuribot from DTI – Center for Innovation and Technology for Enterprises will cite some examples of small capital but income generating businesses, such as perfume making. Pacuribot is also set to teach the attendees about the different ways, styles, and contents needed to make the said product.
The labor chief meantime encourages the public to attend the said caravan most especially the breakout sessions as this will equip them with appropriate labor market information.
