At DOLE job fair for Libya repatriates, 187 of 384 applicants go for local jobs

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday expressed delight at the successful conduct by the DOLE of the job fair specifically held for overseas Filipino workers who were repatriated from Libya, as Director Anna Dominique Tutay of the Bureau of Local Employment reported that 187 of 384 applicants who registered at the job fair applied for local employment.

“The 187 applicants have qualified for local employment opportunities offered by 12 establishments belonging to the Philippine Association of Local Service Contractors, Inc (PALSCON) and construction giants D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) and Engineering Equipment, Inc. (EEI). They will undergo pre-employment processes starting tomorrow,” said Baldoz.

“This is the first job fair of its kind for OFW repatriates. As soon as we have completed the profiles of the more than 3,500 OFWs who have been repatriated from Libya, we will conduct similar job fairs in September in the Visayas and Mindanao, in areas where there are a large concentration of repatriates,” she added.

The job fair, held at the Occupational Safety and Health Center in Quezon City, is an employment facilitation service under the DOLE’s Assist WELL Program, component of the National Reintegration Program for OFWs that seeks to ensure the successful reintegration of OFWs repatriated from crisis or emergency situations, pursuant to relevant alert level systems of the national government.

The ‘WELL’ in Assist WELL stands for Welfare, Employment, Livelihood, and Legal services that the DOLE and its agencies provide to OFW repatriates.

Yesterday’s job fair offered over 12,000 vacancies, 5,601 of which local employment opportunities, while the rest are for overseas. Baldoz urged those who were not able to go to the job fair to visit the website of the Enhanced Phil-JobNet (E-PJN) at  and access the vacancies there since not all of the 5,601 local jobs were filled up during the one-day job fair. The E-PJN is the government’s web-based job matching facility and labor market information portal.

“To our OFW repatriates from Libya, accessing the jobs at the Enhanced PhilJobNet is very easy,” said Baldoz.
