Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday said that the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Macau has lined up simple, yet meaningful activities in line with the celebration of the Department’s 80th Anniversary on 8 December. “POLO Macau will highlight the participation of the community of overseas Filipino workers in that country in these simple, yet meaningful activities. We want to celebrate our accomplishments, but we also have to empathize with our kababayans who were affected by the calamities that hit the country this year,” said Baldoz. The DOLE’s 80th Anniversary theme is “Walumpung Taong Pag-unlad, Walumpung Taong Paglilingkod.” Citing a report from Officer-in-Charge Ramon L.C. Pastrana of the POLO in Macau, Baldoz said the POLO will hold a lantern-lighting at the Nam Van Public Park on 16 December and a choir-singing competition on 13 December as part of the POLO’s commemorative celebration of the DOLE’s 80th anniversary. The lantern-lighting will be held with various Filipino civic and religious organizations in Macau participating. It is aimed at showcasing the talents of Filipino workers in parol or lantern making . The POLO plans to invite Macau government officials to grace the said activity. The choir-singing competition, on the other hand, will be a part of the Filipino community’s Christmas celebration, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General. It will be held in Chan Meng Kam theatre. End/LetMaring
