2k jobs yearly for Pinoys in Canada
More overseas opportunities are up for grabs for Filipino skilled workers as Yukon, a Canadian province, will open 2,000 jobs per year in various industries, the labor department reported.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said he has signed a joint communique with his counterpart in Yukon for the deployment of skilled workers with an opportunity to bring their families there.
Bello visited Canada last month.
“The joint communique with Yukon Canada contains a request for 2,000 skilled workers every year,” he said. Bello also said “Filipinos there look very prosperous, very happy. I talked to every single one of them and they were all happy and well taken care of.”
Following the agreement, he directed Administrator Bernard Olalia of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to fast-track the deployment of workers to Yukon, as well as the processing of Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) of those who will be working in Vancouver and Toronto.
“After we met with our counterparts, I advised Admin Olalia to liberalize the deployment of OFWs in Canada. We had a first-hand encounter with the Filipinos in Yukon and we are assured that they are well protected, and respected without any class distinction. We heard not a single complaint,” Bello added.
The salaries are also said to be competitive ranging from P80,000 up to P300,000 and most of the available positions which will be opened to Filipino skilled workers are heavy equipment operators, nurses, cook, chefs, engineers, caregivers, call center agents and other local job opportunities.
Interested applicants should be fluent in English, has the related job degree, with appropriate training, and physically and mentally fit.
“Canadians prefer Filipino workers because of the impression of our quality of work and efficiency. They are also conscious about the family bond, hence, they encourage the workers to bring their family with them in Canada and they will facilitate their entry,” Bello said.
The labor chief said their counterparts were eager to sign a bilateral agreement to formalize the deployment of OFWs in Yukon, Canada. However he rather requested them to visit and ink the deal in the Philippines.
“Yukon, is a territory in northwest Canada and we think there are around 20,000 residents or people, of which, 3,000 are Filipinos. So, everywhere you go, you will see and meet Filipinos. They are very welcomed in the community,” Bello said.

Magkakaroon na ng dagdag na oportunidad sa ibang bansa ang mga Pilipinong skilled worker kasunod ng pagbubukas ng Yukon, isang probinsya sa Canada, ng 2,000 trabaho kada taon sa iba’t ibang industriya base sa ulat ng Department of Labor and Employment.
Ayon kay Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, lumagda siya ng isang joint communique kasama ang mga opisyal ng Yukon para sa deployment ng mga skilled worker na mayroon pang oportunidad na maisama ng mga manggagawa ang kanilang mga pamilya.
Bumisita si Bello noong nakaraang buwan sa Canada.
“Naglalaman ang joint communique sa Yukon Canada ng kanilang hiling para sa 2,000 skilled worker kada taon,” wika niya. Sinabi pa ni Bello na “Ang mga Pilipino doon ay very prosperous, at very happy. Kinausap ko ang bawat isa sa kanila, at lahat sila ay masaya at well taken care of.”
Matapos ang kasunduan, inatasan niya si Administrator Bernard Olalia ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) upang pabilisin ang deployment ng mga manggagawa sa Yukon, maging ang pagpoproseso ng mga Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) para sa mga magtatrabaho sa Vancouver at Toronto.
“Matapos naming makipagpulong sa mga opisyal sa Yukon, inatasan ko na si Admin. Olalia upang pabilisin ang deployment ng mga OFW sa Canada. Nagkaroon kami ng first-hand encounter sa mga Pilipino sa Yukon at nakasisiguro kaming sila ay protektado at respetado na walang anumang class distinction. Wala kaming natanggap kahit isang reklamo,” dagdag pa ni Bello.
Aabot rin ang suweldo mula P80,000 hanggang P300,000 at karamihan sa mga bakanteng posisyon na bubuksan sa mga Pilipinong skilled worker ay heavy equipment operator, nurse, cook, chef, engineer, caregiver, call center agent at iba pang lokal na oportunidad sa trabaho.
Ang mga interesadong aplikante ay dapat na fluent sa English, mayroong naaayon na job degree, at pagsasanay, at physically at mentally fit.
“Mas gusto ng mga Canadian ang mga Pilipinong manggagawa dahil sa kalidad ng trabaho at sipag nating mga Pinoy. Mahalaga rin sa kanila ang family bond, kaya naman hinihikayat nila ang mga manggagawa na isama ang kani-kanilang mga pamilya sa Canada at tutulungan silang makapasok sa nasabing bansa,” wika ni Bello.
Sinabi rin ng kalihim na nais nang lumagda ng mga opisyal sa Yukon ng isang bilateral agreement upang gawing pormal ang deployment ng mga OFW sa Yukon, Canada. Subalit hiniling nito na bumisita sila at lagdaan ang kasunduan dito sa Pilipinas.
“Ang Yukon, ay isang teritoryo sa northwest Canada at sa tingin namin, mayroon doong 20,000 tao o mga residente, at nasa 3,000 doon ay mga Pilipino. Kaya naman kahit saan ka magpunta, makakakita ka ng mga Pilipino. Very welcome sila sa komunidad,” ayon pa kay Bello.
