16-K jobs--2,000 of them local--await jobseekers in 2nd DOLE-Private Recruitment sector joint relief mission and jobs fair

Over 16,000 job vacancies, 2,000 of them local jobs, from 34 licensed overseas recruitment agencies and 10 local employers, will be available at a jobs fair on 22 January 2013 in Tacloban City, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz announced yesterday.

"This is the second relief mission and jobs fair that the DOLE and its partners will conduct in Eastern Visayas after Typhoon Yolanda. The first was in November last year in Ormoc City," Baldoz said.

The relief mission and jobs fair is a joint activity of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), and the DOLE Regional Office VIII, in cooperation with the Tacloban City government, the regional and provincial Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs), and licensed recruitment agencies under the umbrella of the May Bukas Pa Movement, a project of 25 organizations in the overseas employment sector.

"The jobs fair’s theme, ‘May Bukas Pa’, underscores our resolve as a nation to think and act positively despite the challenges and difficulties we have gone through.  There is always hope and we should take every available opportunity to hasten our recovery,” Baldoz said.

The local companies participating in the job fair include Work Avenue Recruitment Specialist and Extra Ordinaire Janitorial & Manpower Services, Inc. which will offer 1,670 job vacancies for various work sites in Metro Manila, Cavite, Paranaque City, and Batangas.

From the Visayas, specifically Cebu and Leyte, six semi-conductor companies that include Metro Cebu Resources, Inc. (MCRI) and Pro-Diges, Inc. are bringing in over 400 vacancies for housekeeping supervisors, production machine operator, production workers, welders, painters, carpenters, plumbers, aircon technicians, company nurses, drivers, accounting staff, housekeeping supervisors, electricians, baggers, checkers, housekeeping attendants, cashiers, sales promo staff, elevator operators, freight elevator operators, carousel operators, and male production operators.

The Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP) and the Philippine Association of Local Service Contractors, Inc. (PALSCON), which are also participating, are bringing in their members with unspecified number of vacancies.
